April Home Watch: Mold

Every month there are things that must be watched when looking after an older home. This is the best time to check for holes in the eves, and especially watch for water in the basement. Don't wait until you smell something wrong. It is too late.

I had a friend who spent $5000 to remove mold from their basement. Many people have stopped using dehumidifiers since they learned that they are electricity hogs. This has compounded the problem.

To save money we turn our furnaces off without thinking - the house is warm now - but it is also damp. This dampness and warmth creates the perfect habitant for mold.
