Leave room between counters and the appliances for doors to open. Allow enough continuous counter space to prepare a meal on. Think. Your dream kitchen may not come with a spot to put down a hot pot. If you put the pot in the sink, then it might be too far from the food preparatioin area.

Creating the Dream Kitchen - The Golden Triangle
The kitchen is the hub of the family, so you need to get it right. It is also one of the most expensive rooms in the home, so you need to get it right the first time.
Start by sketching where you'd like the pieces to be. Lay out the kitchen and make sure that you'll have room when the project is done. You also want to make sure that everything is convenient. Beautiful is good. Efficient and convienient is better.
Consider those specialty areas. Are the kitchen cupboards large enough for your plates. Do you want to keep a bread maker on the counter? Will your island be large enough?
You'll also want to make sure there is enough natural light and 'space.'
Don't forget the 'work triangle' - the golden rule. The triangle consists of your main cooking centre, the refrigerator and the sink. You must create a clear path between each no more than 7-feet long.
Leave room between counters and the appliances for doors to open. Allow enough continuous counter space to prepare a meal on. Think. Your dream kitchen may not come with a spot to put down a hot pot. If you put the pot in the sink, then it might be too far from the food preparatioin area.
Now think about Christmas, family get togethers, and most importantly, cleaning. Your oven may be perfect in the corner, but if you can't open the door and clean the oven without bending over more than 3' then you've a major flaw in the kitchen design.
