Shutters Save Energy

Shutters frame windows and add color to a house. Few houses use exterior shuttersto protect the house from storms. This isn't needed now that double windows keep the winter winds out of our homes. Today's shutters are made both 'fixed' and operational. There are some advantages to making shutters operational.

I live in Canada, close to lake Huron. We can save a few hundred dollars in heating costs a year, just by closing the shutters on the north side of the house. Most of these windows are covered in 'lined' drapes that are never opened.

The new energy efficiency required in most homes has brought back many 'older' methods of keeping the wind out, like mudrooms and shutters.

This particular shutter is made by Larson Shutter (singular)

They are not luxuries any more, or decorations on the side of a house. Exterior Shutters are now an important part of the energy efficient home.
