What To Do With HardWood Floors

We have antique hardwood floors in our house. We tore up the carpet, and the 14 layers of vinal flooring, and were gong to stain the floors. As good as this idea sounds, it won't work.

Houses today are dryer than they were 100 years ago. It took less than 2 years for the cracks in our floors to be so wide we could see from one floor to the next. We had 'pros' tell us that it would have worked if we put new finish on them. Wrong.

The new finish didn't sit into the wood well, because it was impossible to sand it properly. Ther ewere grooves and gouges, and places the floor waved. Also, as we learned, we would have needed to put a finish on both the top and the bottom of the wood to seal the floor completely. Even that is just a guess, because no one has tried it.

So, we are now putting hardwood on our floors that 'looks' old, to match the house. And leaving our treasured 6" wide, oak floors underneath, protected, a hidden treasure.
