Electricity Went Out - Monoxide Poisoning

We had an interesting night two nights ago. Our electricity went out. That wasn't the scary part. What we didn't realize was that our furnace kept going, though the fan was out. This filled our house with carbon monoxide. We were lucky. The worst thing that happened to us was sever headaches and a few days feeling tired and ill.

The hydro (electricity) went out because ice entered the connection to our house and separated it. We did not get carbon monoxide monitors because we sleep on the second floor, and were told that the gas hangs lower than oxegyn. That may be true, but in a closed environment, enough of it did reach us on the second floor.

I just wanted to warn people that, though the fire in the furnace is small, it is enough to poison a house within 4 hours.
